OUR STORY,

Fabien and Lisanne Moreau were both born and raised in France. They both grew up in what they call "traditional French Families" where everybody sits at the table to share a family dinner. "There was always a bottle of wine and some fresh bread on the table!"

Both their parents grew up in the country except for Lisanne's mom who is from Pittsburgh. Lisanne's grandparents used to own a bakery and a cafe in a small village in Burgundy. Fabien's family still lives in the country and almost everything they eat is from their garden.

When Lisanne Moreau decided to move to Pittsburgh, Fabien agreed to follow his wife with plans of opening his own business.

Fabien, who didn't speak English when he arrived, started working as a line cook. He worked in some of the city's best restaurants.

"My first thought was to open a French restaurant, but I realized that there wasn't any traditional French bakery in Pittsburgh".

Fabien studied at the famous Lenôtre culinary school in Paris where he learned the techniques for baking.

In June 2010, La Gourmandine bakery & pastry shop opened. Please come in and enjoy a true French experience!!!
